About "The Hub"

The Charlton Sustainability Hub (The Hub) is a co-created experiential learning Hub that promotes the development of circular economies. We are focused on sharing knowledge across rural and remote communities in Northern Ontario to offer communities with the skills, knowledge, and tools to change their future. Through the development of this co-operative centre, we can build a better and more sustainable future for the community. Our centre will provide workshops, courses, and hands-on educational programs taught by local experts that will inspire and create opportunities for community-led change.

The Hub was established in 2020 through a partnership between the Northern Ontario Centre for Sustainable Development (NOCSD), a charitable development co-operative and Keepers of the Circle, an Indigenous not-for-profit. As a collective, we will work together to ensure that rural and remote communities across Northern Ontario have access to learning and skills development opportunities. The Hub will be a place where Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities can come together to learn and build self-sustaining livelihoods.

Our on-site location in Charlton, Ontario will be a net-zero building centre with teaching classrooms, living accommodations, and hands-on demonstration and modelling sites. Our goal is to promote the development of local circular economies through workshops and programs that share knowledge around local food production and systems, renewable energy management, and other localized solutions to green living.
